'Twas the week of Halloween . . .

. . . and all through the house
Lay fragments of costumes, too large for a mouse
Homework was buried beneath bags for treats
And bellies were aching from all the fine sweets
From candy corn on cookies, to Jack-O-lantern fun
And dressing up for everything, there was much to be done
Finally it came, the morning of Halloween
But alas, Snowball (Liv's rat) was nowhere to be seen
Tabatha, her companion, also tried to flee
But I caught her quickly - she ran right in front of me!
Parade and parties, and searching for Snowball,
Trick-or-treat in rainy wind, as the night began to fall
A tired pirate, bat, and doctor lugging heavy loads
All headed home with voices like a witch's croaking toads
With the last treat collected, the children in bed
I thought of cleaning up, but ate candy instead.
And as for Snowball? well she's quick, and she had her fun
But finally 'neath the oven, Liv caught her with no place to run
Trick . . . or treat . . .? You say with a pumpkin grin
Well I'm done with tricks. That rat did me in!

Very creative-your poem is so cute! I also love all your kids' costumes!

Just picturing a missing rat amidst all that chaos was really quite overwhelming! Yikes!

The poem was very clever--I really enjoyed it. I liked Isaac's parrot.
