September 15, 2016
Dear Friends and Family, My choir, One Voice Children’s Choir, has been invited to represent the United States as the choir for three D-Day Memorial Celebrations in Normandy, France, June 3rd-5th, 2017. Additionally, the choir is scheduled to spend several days in Paris, performing at venues such as The Notre Dame Cathedral and L'église de la Madeleine.
The cost of the entire tour, including airfare (unless you have skymiles you want to donate!), is $3,000 per person. I need to pay almost half of this by September 22, which means that I have less than a week to raise over $1,000!
I have been dedicated to the choir since I was ten years old, and I have consistently prioritized my involvement in it over other extracurricular activities. Besides weekly rehearsals, I have performed about 200 times over the past six years - from local senior centers to Radio City Music Hall in NYC! My favorite performances are the ones where it feels like we are really making a difference, like when I can see tears in people’s eyes. This is possible because of our tireless, genius director, Masa Fukuda. He gives his all, and I feel so blessed to have been instructed for so many years by someone so mind-blowingly talented. I can’t believe my last year in the choir will be 2017, since I will turn 18 in December next year!
While most of my time has been occupied with two jobs, an internship, and school over the past several months, I have invested thousands of hours into One Voice Children’s Choir over the past six years. I have recently volunteered hours of my time to help with choir-organized fundraisers, and I am more than willing to put in the extra work to continue raising money for this priceless opportunity. I will never be offered this unique educational experience again -- the privilege of representing my country while performing in a number of historically significant events, connecting generations through beautiful music.
Thank you for any small way you can help me make it to France during my final year as a member of One Voice Children’s Choir.
With Gratitude,
Olivia Anderson
