It's official! I just received an acceptance letter from the University of Utah's Department of Educational Psychology. In the fall I will begin as a full time student in a Masters program to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (similar to a LCSW), even though I will have taken 9 of my 60 hours by then! The program is one of several Ed Psych graduate programs, all housed in the College of Education. I spent hours and hours researching different grad school programs, some within the same department, others in completely different colleges. I took a huge risk not applying for more than one program, especially since the one I applied for takes only 8-10 students per year (out of over 50 applications). What a relief to finally have some direction, and to know that this is what I want to do. My long term goal is to incorporate dance and art into my therapy practice. Right now, my hope is to get through school with 3 kids who sometimes have more homework than I do! Thankfully their dad is moving to Utah in May, so this is great timing.
