Back to School

My sweeties are back, and I can now go on. It's like someone literally plugged life back into me. Reattached my limbs. I am not surprised that they each seemed to stretch like taffy over the summer. Olivia is clearly more responsible than ever - not that she wasn't before. And Isaac has gotten so smart. You should see how handsome he looks with his new glasses! I gave them to him the day he came back, and he has been diligently caring for them since. Grace has truly graduated from preschool to Kindergarten. She is clearly 5, and not 4 - as she constantly reminds me.

Olivia and Isaac started school at Uintah on Tuesday, and they love their teachers so far. It's a good little walk to school (just over 1/2 mile), but it seems as if from 8:00-8:30 am the whole neighborhood is walking. Olivia has informed me that all of the friends she has made have their own cell phones. Like Grandma said, that's great. If she ever needs to make a call, she can ask any of her friends to use the phone. Isaac was worried the first day of school because he couldn't do all of his times tables. They must have had some kind of assessment test, but I reassured him that he would be o.k. I actually started school this week too. I'm taking a graduate level class towards a Master's Degree in School Counseling. We'll see if I can survive!

Grace, who hasn't started school, has been having ultra Mommy-time this week. She and I have had some very deep talks. All week she has been asking me questions about heaven and dying. "Are there cars there? Where is it? Is there going to be a new earth? Will I get sick? Am I allowed to be funny there? Do we die again there?" are some of her questions. I have a feeling this conversation will continue for at least another week. Her most impressive development, which is not common among all of us, is that she is now capable of conceptualizing the reward of delayed gratification!! As Aunt Susan would say, she is now a "two marshmallow kid". Here is an example: We got some vanilla and chocolate pudding mix at the store yesterday. When we got home, Grace asked if we could make the Vanilla one. I asked her why she didn't want the chocolate one, since this girl loves chocolate like you wouldn't believe. She said "I want to save the chocolate for later, because that is my favorite!" It is so fun to watch Grace dance. I am teaching and playing music for Tanner Dance again this year. Grace came with me when I had to play, and then she had her own dance class later that day. Even after that, Olivia had her dance class too. So Grace basically danced for 3 dance classes and never got sick of it. I can't think of a better way for her to release all that energy, since her two default modes are hungry and bouncy.

One last thing about Grace. Last night she was running around outside and I told her she was a bit stinky and needed a bath. She responded with "Mommy, I'm not stinky, I'm yummy!"
